Ambassador Barzun and Green Party MP Bodil Ceballo talking in the Embassy in a Box.

On the Embassy’s fifth stop on the Road Show on May 23, we had a great day in Gävle. The Ambassador kicked off the day with site visits to Mackmyra’s whisky distillery and Gevalia. He then treated the Gävle residents to an American pancake fika, co-hosted by Gävle Mayor Carina Blank. Throughout the day, we welcomed many students to the Embassy in a Box, and they attended seminars on American culture as well as on Studying and Working in the U.S. Our venue, Förvaltningshuset in Gävle, provided a great opportunity for the students to get the most out of what the Embassy in a Box has to offer, with everything from a tweeting contest to consular services. A group of invited people from Gävle’s business sector came to participate in a seminar on doing business with the U.S., hosted by the Foreign Commercial Service.

Ambassador Barzun traveled to the University of Gävle to participate in a lunch and a Q&A session with students and professors from the university. The Q&A was live streamed in order to give the many commuting students of the university a chance to listen in as well! The Ambassador also attended the inauguration of ESRI’s cooperation with the university. Back at the Embassy in a Box, Ambassador Barzun was one of the panelists in an Open Forum in which Gävle and the U.S. identified key areas in sustainability, clean technology and innovation in which we could learn from each other. The day ended with a happy hour to celebrate a successful day and newly gained friendships.
