Swedish and US Business Students Discuss Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Ambassador Brzezinski and Natalia Brzezinski hosted a panel discussion on innovation and entrepreneurship with students from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, the Stockholm School of Economics, and Stockholm University.

Secretary Kerry Visits Sweden
Secretary Kerry traveled to Stockholm, Sweden, on May 14, where he met with Swedish Prime Minister Reinfeldt and Foreign Minister Bildt to discuss the Arctic Council, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, and other issues of global importance. Secretary Kerry then traveled to Kiruna, Sweden, where attended the Arctic Council’s Ministerial Meeting on May 15.

Treasury Secretary Lew unveils design of Raoul Wallenberg Congressional Gold Medal with HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew unveiled the designs of the Raoul Wallenberg Congressional Gold Medal during a ceremony held in the Treasury’s historic Cash Room on May 9. Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were present for the event, along with Congressman Gregory Meeks.

EducationUSA at the embassy
On April 25th the American Embassy along with EducationUSA organized an event for guidance counselors and principles from high schools all over Stockholm to learn about studying in the US. Representatives from EducationUSA and Fulbright were also present.

Ambassador Brzezinski met with high school students from Enskilda gymnasiet who came to learn about diplomacy and about studying in the U.S. The students also got to meet with embassy officers from the Public Affairs Section and the Consular Section.

Ambassador Brzezinski spoke at the Sweden America Foundation’s annual general meeting
Ambassador Brzezinski joined Crown Princess Victoria at an event hosted by the Canadian Ambassador to mark the Sweden America Foundation’s annual general meeting. Ambassador Brzezinski highlighted the important role that people-to-people connections play in strengthening relations between the United States and Sweden. The Ambassador also spoke about his experience as a Fulbright scholar in Poland.

Ambassador Brzezinski met with the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden
Ambassador Brzezinski met with the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden on April 18. The American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, AmCham, was established in 1992 and is a non-profit organization for U.S. companies in Sweden, or other companies benefiting from membership, and has more than 220 member companies.

Memphis in May International Festival
As a lead up to the Salute to Sweden at the ‘Memphis in May International Festival,’ a delegation from Memphis, Tennessee visited Stockholm to promote the festival and promote trade between Sweden and Memphis. On April 16, 2013, Ambassador Brzezinski hosted a reception with Swedish and Memphis guests.

Ambassador Brzezinski hosts roundtable with Professor Muhammad Yunus
On April 13 Ambassador Brzezinski welcomed Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus for a discussion on social business and entrepreneurship with Swedish businesspeople, representatives from the banking sector, government officials, educators and young entrepreneurs. Discussion centered on Professor Yunus’ work in Bangladesh and how empowering the unemployed to become job creators could help address employment challenges in Europe.

Ambassador Brzezinski visits Abisko Scientific Research Station
On April 10, U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Mark Brzezinski visited Abisko in the northernmost part of Sweden to view, first-hand, the impact that climate change has on a sub-Arctic environment. The Abisko Scientific Research Station is located approximately 90 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of Kiruna in northern Sweden right by the Stordalen Mire where most of the research is being conducted.

In American fashion, we are hitting the road on what we call the U.S. Embassy Road Show. At each Road Show stop Embassy staff will present seminars on doing business with, working in, or studying in the United States along with many other activities.

On March 19, Ambassador Brzezinski visited Ikea’s Swedish headquarters in Älmhult, Småland. The world’s largest furniture retailer was founded in the area in 1943. The company now has over 300 stores in 38 countries. Ikea has a large presence in the U.S., including relationships with 22 American suppliers, and its North American factory is in Danville, VA.

Nordic Cool Reception
On February 15, 2013, U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski and Mrs. Natalia Brzezinski hosted a launch reception for 220 guests in honor of the Swedish delegation participating in the “Nordic Cool 2013” cultural festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
