    Ambassadorial Duo Makes Climate Connections in Malmö

    Ambassador Barzun and his specially invited guest U.S. Ambassador to Finland Bruce Oreck visited Malmö on December 14 to explore possibilities in improving the environmental performance of cities.

    Lunch Honoring the 2009 U.S. Nobel Laureates

    The day before the big award ceremony at Stockholm's Concert Hall, Ambassador Barzun honored the U.S. 2009 Nobel laureates at a lunch at the Ambassador's residence together with their families and friends.

    Exchange visitor Shares his U.S. Experience with Sweden

    Christer Hofström, a narcotics K9 handler currently on leave from the Swedish Prison Administration came back after a study visit in the U.S. co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy Stockholm. Inspired by his visit, Mr. Hofström wants to start a Swedish prison dog system.

    Commercial Officer Delivers Keynote Speech at Bioenergy Conference

    In his keynote address at the International Bioenergy Days in Trollhättan, Frank Carrico, Senior Regional Commercial Officer, talked about President Obama's initiatives on biofuels, highlighting the $1 Billion earmarked for direct investments in biofuels.

    U.S. Embasssy Stockholm honoring National Day of Service and Remembrance.

    Responding to President Barack Obama's call to remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks by reaching out to the community, Ambassador and Mrs. Matthew Barzun led a team of volunteers from the Embassy and helped paint a half-way house for transient men and women.

    Ambassador Barzun hosts Iftar dinner

    On the 16th day of Ramadan, Ambassador hosted a historic first Iftar at the Residence. Among the guests were representives from the Swedish government, the diplomatic corps, the media, and, most importantly, Sweden's young modern Muslim society.

    Ambassador and Mrs. Barzun hosts Labor Day BBQ for Embassy Staff

    In celebration of Labor Day, Ambassador Barzun hosted a real Kentucky style BBQ for Embassy employees and their families.

    Ambassador Barzun in his First Interview

    Ambassador Barzun did his first interview after arriving in Stockholm with Dagens Nyheter. In speaking about the strong and close U.S.-Swedish relations, he highlighted the climate issue as one international challenge where the two countries are working together.

    On August 21, 2009, Ambassador Matthew Barzun presented his credentials to HM King Carl XVI Gustaf in a formal ceremony marking the official recognition of a foreign ambassador in Sweden.

    US Embassy Celebrates U.S.-Swedish Friendship

    On Sunday, August 9, APAO Ryan Koch celebrated Minnesota Day in Växjö. Throughout the summer, the U.St. Embassy has proudly participated in multiple Swedish-American Festivals throughout Sweden, serving to strengthen the U.S.-Swedish relationship.

    APAO Participates in Panel Discussion Ahead of Copenhagen Summit

    On Thursday, July 2, APAO Ryan Koch participated in a panel discussion during Almedalen week in Visby, Gotland. During the two-hour discussion, participants discussed issues and expectations ahead of the Copenhagen Summit in December.

    Embassy Independence Day Celebration

    On June 30, the U.S. Embassy Stockholm celebrated the 233rd Independence Day together with more than 500 guests representing the Government of Sweden, Diplomatic Corps, Media, and the business community.

    US Embassy Releases 2009 A-List; Announces 3 New Additions

    On June 30, 2009, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Robert Silverman released the latest edition of the Embassy's List of Alternative Energy Opportunities in Sweden. The new list adds three companies to its ranks: Detox, Lindinvent and NFO Drives.

    Embassy Hosts Viewing of President Obama's Cairo Speech

    On June 25, Embassy Stockholm hosted a viewing of President Obama’s “New Beginning” speech for a number of representatives from Muslim communities in Stockholm to discuss their thoughts and reactions to the Cairo event.
