Consular affairs (passports, visas or legal affairs)

Please read the information provided online before you contact the embassy. The information provided on the Non-Immigrant or Immigrant Visas, and  American Citizen Services pages should answer most questions.

If you still need to contact the Consular Section, e-mail is preferred. Our staff generally responds to e-mails within 3-5 working days. Please e-mail the appropriate address below:

Alternatively, you may send a fax to +46 (8) 660 5879 (please enclose reply you full name, postal address and e-mail address).

If you do not have access to e-mail, you can call the Consular Section during phone hours at the following numbers (Please note that the Consulate is closed on U.S. and Swedish holidays): 

  • Non-Immigrant Visa Unit: Due to the high volume of visa requests, the non-immigrant unit has have a very limited capacity to take phone calls and can answer calls only from Monday through Thursday between 13.00 and 14.00 (1 PM to 2 PM) at telephone number +46 (8) 783 5469. Please note, however, that it might be very difficult to get through even during those phone hours.
  • Immigrant Visa Unit: The Immigrant Visa Unit no longer accepts telephone inquiries. You can contact the unit via email: stkivinfo@state.gov, fax: 08-783 54 80, or by writing.  

  • American Citizen Services: 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at telephone number +46 (0)8 783 5375.

General information about the United States

Questions about the United States that do not concern consular affairs can be directed to the Information Resource Center at 08-783 5300 or stockholmirc@state.gov.

Media Requests

Media is welcome to contact the U.S. Embassy press office for comments from the Embassy spokesperson, interview requests and information about media visas and similar inquiries at: usembpress@gmail.com. For urgent press inquiries call the Embassy switchboard for assistance. For all other inquiries, please contact the appropriate section for assistance.

Travel and Tourism

Unfortunately, the U.S. embassy does not have a travel and tourism office, and we cannot provide travel information, brochures, schedules, etc. There is a great deal of travel information on the internet, and we suggest you begin by visiting USA.gov or Discover America website.
